Congratulations to our three student leaders, Nisaa, Khalif, and Ahmad, and also our alumni from last year, Muhammad Bilal, for participating in the Faith in Leadership Institute scholarship program established by our partner, St. John’s College High School.
In its third year, the program receives 15-25 rising juniors/Seniors from five (5) distinct faith traditions. Each day, students travel together to a sacred space of one of the following five represented faith traditions: Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Reformed Christianity, and Catholic Christianity. At each place of worship, students get to experience the faith through a guided tour, a participatory demonstration in prayer, and a personal account from our Faith Leader on how they journeyed from high school (like our students) into adult leadership within a faith community. During their visit to our location on Minnesota Avenue, Imam Talib Shareef welcomed each student personally and presented an engaging, spirited Q&A session. Students were also treated to lunch and observed the Dhuhr prayer.
Every student receives a small scholarship from $1000 to $2,500. We extend our great appreciation to the students and special thanks to our program leader, Qadir Abdus-Salaam, who was assisted by Sis Imani Abdullah, Bro Floyd, and Albert Sabir.
